Ethics and Challenges Involving Uterus Transplantation - Manuscript Published

Clinical uterus transplantation represents a wonderful success story, now more than 10 years after its successful implementation. Today uterus transplantation is an established clinical procedure, with programs around the world. With clinical advancements, new ethical challenges have evolved, and a group put together by the International Society of Uterus Transplantation (ISUTx) has attempted to answer questions about how and if to include new populations, starting new programs, and transitioned from research into clinical practice.

All those aspects are carefully debated in this very thoughtful manuscript titled Evolving ethical challenges after a decade of uterus transplantation and recommendations from the International Society of Uterus Transplantation Ethics Committee by Anji Wall with co-workers from the ISUTx. An essential read to move uterus transplantation forward in an ethical way. Please read this manuscript, attached below.

This research project is a collaboration with the Women in Transplantation (WIT) Initiative of TTS.

In our study we are focusing on the sociocultural perspectives, conflicts and dynamics surrounding uterus transplantation (UTx) process. The aims of our study are to examine the cultural, organizational and the soma-emotional experiences and differences among the varied participants involve in the UTx process.

We are looking for medical professionals and caregivers (from different UTx centers around the world) to share with us their knowledge and experiences. This invitation is voluntary, non-binding and will help to understand broader aspects and perspectives of the UTx process. This is a qualitative study, based on interviews, which mainly held in English and via zoom. If possible, dependent on location, we welcome face to face interviews.

ISUTx Joins TTS as an Official Section

We are both delighted to announce that the International Society of Uterus Transplantation (ISUTx) will be joining The Transplantation Society as its tenth official Section, and we would like to welcome all its members to TTS. This is a significant milestone for both organizations, and we are confident that members of both Societies will be able to take advantage of the synergies resulting from increased cooperation and the strengthening of our transplantation network. The pioneering field of uterus transplantation offers many challenges to those involved, and, as with all TTS Sections, TTS is committed to providing ISUTx the support it needs to address these challenges, while gaining expertise and insight in a critical field which has been underrepresented in TTS.

We believe that this partnership will be mutually beneficial to both Societies, and we look forward to collaborating on various projects, meetings and initiatives. We eagerly anticipate working together to share knowledge and experiences to benefit the members of both Societies. Over the coming months, we will explore opportunities and elaborate plans to create synergies between our Societies.

The ISUTx membership fee includes TTS Full Membership. All ISUTx members immediatley gain access to TTS’ comprehensive educational material and knowledge base, particularly with regards to science and public policy. TTS members will be able to gain a wealth of knowledge from ISUTx members in this highly specialized field of uterus transplantation. Members of the ISUTx are invited to become TTS members. More information will be forthcoming.

This partnership is an exciting opportunity for all of us, and we look forward to our growing collaboration.
