ITS 2025 - Early-bird Registration is Open

Join us for the 2025 International Transplantation Science meeting (ITS 2025) and connect with the leading global transplantation community!

On behalf of AST, ESOT and TTS, we wish to extend to you a warm welcome to the 2025 International Transplant Science meeting in San Diego, California USA.

The ITS 2025 will provide a forum for presentations and discussions of cutting-edge basic and translational science in and beyond transplantation. This meeting will not only serve as an international platform for scientific discussions on the latest ground-breaking discoveries in the field but will also provide an excellent opportunity to present your own work to the scientific community. We hope this will allow for the exchange of new ideas and establishment of collaborative work between senior scientists, young professionals and early-stage researchers.

Minimally Invasive Donor Hepatectomy in Living Donor Liver Transplantation—Evidence of Benefit?: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Current Literature
Minimally invasive donor hepatectomy (MIDH) has become a key innovation in living donor liver transplantation, offering potential advantages like reduced postoperative pain, faster recovery, less scarring, and related chronic pain. This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the benefits of MIDH compared with conventional open donor hepatectomy (ODH).
Recombinant Chitinase 3-like 1 Alleviates Liver Transplantation-induced Cold Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury by Promoting M2 Polarization of Kupffer Cells
Hepatic cold ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) significantly restricts graft utilization and adversely affects the prognosis of liver transplantation recipients. The overactivation of Kupffer cells (KCs) is recognized as a significant cellular response in hepatic IRI. This study aimed to investigate the potential of recombinant chitinase 3-like 1 (rCHI3L1) to regulate M2 polarization of KCs and alleviate hepatic cold IRI.

Improvements in Patient-reported Functioning After Lung Transplant Is Associated With Improved Quality of Life and Survival
Lung transplantation aims to improve health-related quality of life (HRQL) and survival. Although improvements in lung function are associated with these outcomes, the role of physical functioning is less clear. We investigated the association between changes in patient-reported physical functioning and HRQL, chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD), and survival after lung transplantation.
Outcomes of Kidney Transplantation From Donors on Renal Replacement Therapy
The increasing demand for organs has pushed transplant providers to expand kidney acceptance criteria. The use of kidneys from donors with AKI has been shown to provide good long-term graft survival. We aim to evaluate and compare the outcomes of deceased donor kidney transplantation from donors with acute kidney injury (AKI), either with or without renal replacement therapy (AKI-RRT) before donation.

Fully robotic heart transplant surgery performed

June 17 - Surgeons at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center successfully performed a fully robotic heart transplant on an adult patient – the first reported in the United States. Using a surgical robot, lead surgeon Dr. Kenneth Liao and his team made small, precise incisions, eliminating the need to open the chest and break the breast bone. Liao removed the diseased heart, and the new heart was implanted through preperitoneal space, avoiding chest incision.
Dr. Kenneth Liao can be seen using the surgical robot, the same device he used to perform the first successful, fully robotic heart transplants on an adult patient in the United States.
