Scalable Bioreactor-based Suspension Approach to Generate Stem Cell–derived Islets From Healthy Donor-derived iPSCs
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) offer the potential to generate autologous iPSC-derived islets (iPSC islets), however, remain limited by scalability and product safety.

Balanced Electrolyte Solutions Versus 0.9% Saline for Kidney Transplantation: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Perioperative intravenous fluids are administered to kidney transplant recipients to maintain hemodynamic stability and graft perfusion; however, the ideal fluid remains uncertain. Although 0.9% saline (saline) is commonly used, its high chloride content causes hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis and may increase the risks of delayed graft function (DGF) and hyperkalemia. Balanced electrolyte solutions (BES) have a more physiological chloride concentration and may reduce these risks. Previous meta-analyses found insufficient evidence to compare BES with saline for these outcomes; however, new studies have recently been published. In this updated review, we compared the effects of BES with saline on the risk of DGF and hyperkalemia in kidney transplantation.

Women in Transplantation 2025-2027 Research Grant Awards

Women in Transplantation is delighted to announce WIT funding opportunities for 2025!

Research Fellowship Grant Program

This marks the fifth year WIT is offering the Research Fellowship in Sex and Gender in Solid Organ Transplantation. These fellowships will support the next generation of scientists, furthering our understanding of the importance of sex and gender in transplantation. This is a growing field of interest, and the more we learn, the closer we are to applying these findings to clinical care to benefit patients and donors.

Research Grants for Projects on Gender and Sex in Transplantation for Applicants from Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC)

WIT will also continue to offer a grant to faculty working in low—or middle-income countries. This grant allows transplant professionals in low-resource settings to collaborate with an experienced mentor from the WIT network. Together, they will address the pressing questions within their unique context, fostering international collaboration and building research capacity in lower-resource settings.

CTRMS - Inaugural Edition of CellTx NexT Newsletter

With the start of the new year, the Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society is thrilled to introduce their quarterly newsletter, CellTx NexT.

Each edition will feature updates on society initiatives, cutting-edge research highlights, details of upcoming events, and inspiring breakthroughs that shape the future of cell transplantation and regenerative medicine.

IXA 2025 - Call for Abstracts is Open!

We are delighted to invite you to submit your abstracts for the 18th Congress of the International Xenotransplantation Association (IXA 2025), which will take place from September 30 to October 3, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland.

This premier event brings together leading scientists, clinicians, and researchers to explore advancements and innovations in the field of xenotransplantation.

This is YOUR opportunity to share your exciting scientific research with the growing international xenotransplantation community!

Accepted abstracts will be published in Xenotransplantation, the official journal of the International Xenotransplantation Association.

TID - Measles Guidance Document

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that typically causes rash and fever. Outbreaks of measles are occurring worldwide, in part related to postponed or missed doses of measles-containing vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of the importance of this infection and the potential risk to our solid organ transplant populations, a summary measles document has been developed to guide transplant providers as a collaboration between Transplant Infectious Disease and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation’s Infectious Disease Professional Community..
